I have looked forward to the publication ever since I read the Expats and enjoyed it. I didn't realise there was a continuity between them, but I am sure it works as a standalone. I preferred this to The Expats. There were lots of twists and turns in the plot and was well written. I didn't find themoving around in the story betwwen the characters difficult to follow as some have commented - it is what I expect for this genre.

Chris Pavone grew up in Brooklyn, graduated from Cornell, and was an editor at book-publishing houses in New York for fifteen years. His 2012 debut, The Expats, described by the Sunday Times as 'a captivating, sophisticated thriller' was an international best seller and won the Edgar Award for best first novel.
