The first time I went, I had no idea what to expect. My first impression was of a friendly group of people who knew each other well, a mixed group of men and women of all ages, but mostly men. They were eager to discuss camera equipment and editing software, and then a hush fell on the room as the arranged event took place.
I told my wife about it when I got home.
“That sounds like fun,” she said, putting me at ease because I’d had a great time but was concerned about what she’d think. “Can I come along in the future?”
Her eagerness to come along didn’t totally surprise me. I called the club chairman, who was delighted to hear she wanted to be involved. “It’s always good to find new blood,” were his exact words.
The next meeting came around soon after that, so we went together. The members were all very welcoming and made us feel comfortable from the start. We quickly learned that they had many years of experience between them, some being professional photographers while others were just hobbyists.
When it was almost time for the serious fun to begin, the chairman approached us. “May I whisk your good lady away for a couple of minutes?”
