I missed the arrival of this game on other platforms and only just learned of it. Having no experience playing it with a mouse, I only know the frustration of it using touchscreen controls. Those who bemoan the controls as "poor" have not ventured deep enough into the game to glimpse the truth I have found within: that it is not about you controlling the character, for you cannot. You can only control which instincts/reactions to train, and that it is the environment which is controlling you.

very challenging but thats just part of the game. the only part I dont get is the janky controls. im trying to make careful movements to manoeuvre through obstacles and suddenly he just goes flying in whatever direction, really takes the fun out of it especially if it causes a set back

The controls are simple, but hard to master. A lot of people blame them, but I don't think that's right. Walking is hard for babies, but it becomes natural once you get used to it. Turn input acceleration off, and sens all the way down, and it feels quite comfortable. My favourite part of this game is the commentary. Try to appreciate it as you climb, it's really poetic. As long as you appreciate a pure challenge, no rewards, no upgrades, just skill, this is for you. Try not to get emotional.
